Mount Vernon resident Lloyd Scott pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and is expected to be sentenced to 21 years in prison followed by five years post-release supervision when he is sentenced in December.

Scott was arrested in May last year following an investigation into his dead son, who was found unresponsive in their Esplanade Gardens apartment by his mother, who rushed him to Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on April 16 last year.

According to Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr., on April 16, Scott was alone with his 2-year-old son while his mother was at work. During that time, he beat the child, put him in bed, and when the mother returned home from work, she was told that the child was sleeping.

When the mother checked on her son, he was not breathing. Scott drove the mother and child to Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Scott was arrested that night.

An autopsy performed by the Westchester County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the toddler died from blunt force trauma to his body, including lacerations to his liver, pancreas, and intestines.

Scott is scheduled to be sentenced on Friday, Dec. 6.
